In 2017, a cruise-in was held on Main Street as a new event of the festival. It was so successful that it has been added as a permanent event. In 2022 the location changed from Main Street to the paved area behind the former New Peoples Bank. The 2024 Apple Festival Cruise-In will be held on Saturday, September 28rd from 3:00 pm until dark.
Music by a local not-for-profit DJ will provide a festive atmosphere for the Cruise-In. Dan Joe DJ Music for the Community will be on hand for the event beginning at 3:00 p.m.. Dan Joe DJ Music was founded by Dan Kegley and Joe Rogers in 2018 when they saw an opportunity to benefit the community by DJing as an in kind donation for charitable groups fundraisers and playing private events in exchange for the hosts pledge to donate to a worthy cause of their choice. Private hosts often choose to make donations to the Smyth County Humane Society and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Sadly Joe Rogers passed away in January of 2023. Joe was well known in the community having been a drummer and upright bass player for decades with several local groups. Dan and his wife Sara are continuing what Dan and Joe began. They say that it is an honor and a privilege to support the Apple Festival that in turn contributes so much to the community, usually behind the scenes. So, come on out, admire some classic vehicles and the care their owners give them, and dance a step or two to classic rock, beach, country, or bluegrass. It is anyone's guess what you may hear next.
